StormMagnet.comStorm chase driver Mark Murnahan of YourNew.com, Inc. and Rob Peppers of WIBW Channel 13 in Topeka, Kansas found their way directly into the path of storms last night. With in-studio assistance from Jeremy Goodwin of WIBW and Rob's 21 years of meteorology experience, the team found a path nearly directly under a forming funnel cloud on the front edge of a wall cloud as it moved across US-75 approximately three miles North of Carbondale, Kansas.
While attempting to outrun the storm and stay on the leading edge of the wall cloud, Murnahan and Peppers took a bad turn onto Berryton Road near 125th Street Northeast of Carbondale and found themselves at the mercy of additional storm cells which had developed near the Admire and Allen Kansas areas and later moved through Carbondale, Kansas just south of the team. Their misfortune cut the storm chase short, due to a rock becoming lodged between the chase vehicle's brake caliper and wheel, creating a nickel-sized hole in the wheel.
