About Cannonball One Lap of America 2008

Known as one of the most challenging racing events of all-time, the Cannonball One Lap of America has been a legend among racing enthusiasts since the early 1970's when it was called Cannonball Run. Many people remember the movie, Cannonball Run starring Burt Reynolds and written by Brock Yates, but it is surprising that some people think the real thing is just an urban legend. The Cannonball is real! Brock Yates and Brock Yates Jr still work very hard each year to present what has been said by many to be "the racing equivalent of climbing Mt. Everest". The 25th Cannonball One Lap of America is underway May 2nd through May 10th 2008 and is being Webcast live right here at CopMagnet.com.

This is Not a Street Race Across America's Highways

There are many myths about the Cannonball One Lap of America. One such myth is that it is a race across America. This is not a street race across America, but rather a series of 20 races at some of the greatest raceways in the United States. The earliest Cannonball Run events were, indeed, an illegal race across America, but today that is just impossible for many reasons. Not the least of reasons is that Cops have a lot more technology today than they did in the 1970s. Times have changed, and today's public simply will not tolerate such a thing. In this decade, they would very surely arrest Brock Yates for coordinating an event like the Cannonball Run of the past.

Because we cross a lot of highways with stickers all over our cars, it may look like a race, but the rules of the event state that participants may not break highway traffic laws. Although it may seem really cool to make a mad dash across America in a bunch of non-DOT compliant racecars, this is not the case. In fact, the event producers send letters and communicate directly with the Highway Patrol in each state we cross, in order to inform them when we will be coming through so they are not surprised by the many "racecars" on their roads. We are still Cop Magnets, because of the looks of shock we leave in our wake, which is why YourNew.com, Inc. chose CopMagnet.com for our Live Video Webcast and Live GPS Feed of the 25th Cannonball One Lap of America.

This is when YourNew.com's Mark Murnahan rushed to find Steve Rossini of Highland Design Studio while we were competing at Hallett Motor Racing Circut to switch him over to our clustered hosting systems. For 2008, they will be standing tall with an all new Website design and an automated photography shopping cart system that will allow them to get photos of 2008 One Lap of America out to the public much more quickly.
